About Our Organization
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Island is a part of the Heartland United Way. We serve children in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationally recognized mentoring agency that develops friendships between adult 'Bigs' and youth 'Littles'. Bigs and Littles get together on their own or at the Little's school to share fun activities they enjoy. Through these friendships Little's learn to be productive adults in our communities.
Community-Based Mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters relationship, where Bigs and Littles get together on their own to share fun activities they both enjoy. Matches typically meet for one hour a week. This program is open to adults or couples at least 18 years old.
School-Based Mentoring meet in schools for just one hour each week during the day. They do projects together, read in the library, eat lunch, shoot hoops and more. This program is open to adults or high school juniors or seniors who are at least 16 years old.
Spending Time with Your Little Once matched, Big Brothers and Big Sisters develop friendships with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters. Whether playing a computer game or simply hanging out - you bring magic into the life of a child. It's that simple.
We'll Support Your Friendship When you're part of something Big, you're not alone. Each match is supported by professional staff at your local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency. Match support specialists regularly check in with volunteers, children, and parents, and are always available to answer questions.
